Waste Management: a Brazilian overview, challenges and opportunities.

Focus: Environmental Engineering

Have you thought about the amount of trash you have already generated today? Are you a conscious consumer? What do you do to reduce the trash that you generate? Day-to-day media presents, in an increasingly constant way, problems and concerns related to the environmental issues. The population increasing, the unsustainable use of natural resources, many of them finite, and the lack of control of the pollution generated in our activities, have become topics of constant debates. As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”, it has never been so suitable nowadays and, in this short-course, we will have the opportunity to delve into important and actual issues that awaken a professional conscience, but also, a personal conscience of your role as a citizen. So, we will talk about: (i) Sanitation and Waste Management; (ii) Brazilian Scenario; (iii) National Solid Waste Policy (2010); (iv) Recycling; and (v) Composting.
