Curso (1): “Controlling Excitable Cells and Tissue” – Profª. Elizabeth Cherry (Rochester IT, EUA)
Data: 23/11/2018 (sexta-feira)

Abstract: In this short course, students will look at the dynamics of excitable cells, including alternans, which is a period-two rhythm that develops at rapid pacing rates. A number of methods have been proposed to control cardiac electrical signals by affecting the timing of stimuli that elicit these signals or by proportional feedback through one or more state variables. Examples of the different control strategies will be shown and applied to generic models of excitable systems and for models of cardiac cells. A combination of graphical, analytical, and computational techniques will be used.

Curso (2): “Modeling Complex Systems” – Prof. Flavio Fenton (Georgia Tech, EUA)
Data: 26/11/2018 (segunda-feira)
Horário: 13:30h – 18:30h
Local: Sala S.304

Abstract: In this short course, I will show several table top experiments that while relatively simple can generate very complex dynamics and include chaos. We will show how to use computational modeling to investigate further their dynamics.
