Electric Power Systems

Electric energy systems are made up of complex equipment and installations, distributed over vast geographic regions, whose objectives are the production, transmission, and distribution of electric energy. The processes involved aim to deliver electricity to consumers meeting quality and cost criteria. The analysis of these processes requires the development of appropriate computational methods and models, which constitute research objects in the field of electrical energy systems.

Electronic Systems

The main focus of research in the electronics area is focused on applications in power electronics, instrumentation, and signal processing. The research involves the development and modeling of electronic lighting systems, static converters applied to renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, wind, etc.), active power filters, static compensators, modeling, and control of static converters, efficient power supplies and multilevel converters, digital filters, artificial neural networks, transforms, learning machines, adaptive filters, data acquisition systems, quantization effects, DSP and FPGA implementations, and digital data communication systems.
