Some conversations refuse to stay within the walls of a classroom.

Over the past couple of months, Prof. Andrea Musskopf and I have had the joy of exploring what an emergent queer pedagogy might look like through a South–South graduate course on Gender, Sexuality and Religion. Together with 18 graduate students from UFJF in Brazil and UKZN in South Africa we read across African and Latin American contexts, wrestled with theory and method, and imagined what becomes possible when we learn with rather than merely about one another. We were also privileged to be joined by Dr. Sizwesamajobe Sithole and Dr. Ana Ester, whose contributions deepened and challenged our conversations.
At a time when work on gender, sexuality and religion is increasingly contested, creating spaces where difficult conversations can be held with courage, generosity and intellectual curiosity feels more important than ever. These months reminded me that pedagogy is never simply about knowledge transfer. It is about nurturing communities of thought, cultivating solidarity across contexts, and making room for new questions, new relationships and new futures.
Deeply grateful for everyone who made this shared journey possible. I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

Algumas conversas se recusam a permanecer dentro das paredes de uma sala de aula.
Ao longo dos últimos meses, Prof. Andrea Musskopf e eu tivemos a alegria de explorar o que pode ser uma pedagogia queer emergente através de um componente curricular de pós-graduação sobre Gênero, Sexualidade e Religião Sul-Sul. Juntamente com 18 estudantes de pós-graduação da UFJF no Brasil e da UKZN na África do Sul nós lemos através dos contextos Africano e Latino-Americano, lidamos com teoria e método, e imaginamos o que se torna possível quando nós aprendemos um/a com a/o outra/o ao invés de meramente sobre um/a e a/o outra/o. Nós tivemos também o privilégio e contar com Dr. Sizwesamajobe Sithole e Dra. Ana Ester, cujas contribuições aprofundaram e desafiaram nossas conversas.
Em um tempo em que o trabalho sobre gênero, sexualidade e religião é cada vez mais contestado, criar espaços onde conversas difíceis podem acontecer com coragem, generosidade e curiosidade intelectual parece mais importante do que nunca. Esses momentos me lembraram que pedagogia nunca é simplesmente sobre transferência de conhecimento. É sobre criar e nutrir comunidades de pensamento, cultivando solidariedade entre contextos, e criar espaço para novas perguntas, novas relações e novos futuros.
Profundamente agradecida por todas/os que tornaram essa jornada compartilhada possível. Eu sinto que esse é somente o começo.
