The Course:

It is devoted to the study of oral health, including prevention and treatment of teeth and other structures of the mouth. The training includes subjects of Biological Science and Health, such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Genetics, Histology and Pathology. It is subdivided into dental clinic, social and children’s dentistry and restorative dentistry. The vocational subjects include Surgery and Traumatology, Dentistics (functional and esthetical restorations) Endodontic (study of the pulp and root of the teeth and related diseases) Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics (correction of the irregular placement of teeth and facial bones), Periodontics (treatment of gums), Prosthetics, and Radiology, among others. The academic activities are divided into lectures, practice in laboratories, teaching clinics, extension activities and research. The internship is done in companies, clinics, municipal and state schools. In addition, the program provides residency programs, specialization, master’s degree, and research centres.

Professional prospects:

The dentist takes care of people’s oral health, ensuring the proper function and aesthetics of the mouth. The professional can act as a university professor, public or private worker, and researcher. Preventive or curative dental care can be performed privately (dentist’s own office), or through public institutions, unions and agreements. The areas of expertise are broad: Orthodontics, Endodontic, Periodontics, and Implant Dentistry, among others.
