Student Support

Students who have been accepted at UFJF but who are struggling to keep studying and to live in Juiz de Fora can apply for one of the student support grants offered.In order to obtain a grant, the students must apply for the Student Support. Grants are offered every semester.The students’ family and socioeconomic status will be assessed and if they are among those most in need within the scholarships limit, they are granted the support.

Types of support offered:

Stay Grant:  with features Permanence Exchange Program of the Ministry of Education, is aimed at UFJF, only students of medicine and nursing, which, for now, are the only courses with a daily schedule of five hours, according to the Ministry of Education requirement for this benefit .This grant is extended to students of indigenous and black rural communities (Quilombos), regardless of the course they are in.The grant given is worth 400 BRL per month.

PNAES Grant: with funds from the National Student Assistance Plan (PNAES), this is intended for students of all classroom courses at UFJF, except the medical and nursing students, since they are favored with the Stay Grant.The grant given is worth 400 BRL.

Housing Support: financial assistance in the amount of 340 BRL monthly for partial living expenses (for students coming from other locations and studying on the Juiz de Fora and Governador Valadares campuses).

Meal Support: access to free meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in UFJF’s university restaurants in their regular working hours.

Transportation Support: transportation vouchers for the commute between students’ homes and UFJF (round trip) during the term.

Childcare Support: financial assistance in the amount of 120 BRL monthly to partially finance the costs of legal dependents up to the age of 5 years, 11 months and 29 days old.

University Restaurant

UFJF has a University Restaurant (Restaurante Universitário, RU) on its two campuses for students and staff.In Juiz de Fora there are two units, one in downtown and another on campus, serving an average of 5,000 meals a day.It offers breakfast (0.50 BRL), lunch (1.40 BRL) and dinner (1.40 BRL).To purchase tickets, the students simply present their access cards and the staff shows their functional badges.

Apartment Building for Student Housing

UFJF’s new Student House is in its final stages of completion.Two buildings, one for males and one females, with about 200 apartments in total are ready.  In addition to the bedrooms, the buildings have study rooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, laundry and guardhouse, and are located in a neighborhood called San Pedro, 500 meters from UFJF’s entrance gate.A committee with student representation was formed to establish the rules regulating occupation, how many students will be selected and what the criteria of choice are.

Psychological and Pedagogical Support

The Office of the Associate Dean of Student Support and Inclusive Education offers psychological care, with professionals willing to listen and guide students during their university experience.It also has educational support to help them in their educational and academic needs.
