Dental Healthcare

UFJF’s School of Dentistry Clinic provides a wide range of dental care, from simple restorations, treatments with orthodontic braces to oral surgery. The free services are provided by professionals who attend graduate courses and undergraduate students supervised by professors.The unit also has special projects for specific people, such as teenagers, the elderly, pregnant women and children.
In order to be seen, the patients should seek the Unit of Primary Health Care (health center) in their neighborhood, where they will be assessed by the dentist, who will decide the referral to UFJF. In the clinic, the patient is received and informed about the treatment. Depending on the demand, it may be necessary to wait. The Dentistry School also offers emergency treatment, provided that the patient is able to wait for the definitive care.For emergency care, there is no need to make an appointment.
Special Healthcare
The Clinic for the Adolescent (or Hebiatric Dentistry Clinic) provides services to young people up to 20 years old referred by the SUS or institutions such as “Lar Fabiano de Cristo”, “Don Orione” and “Instituto Maria. “The care is focused on the peculiarities of treatment to young patients with counseling and psychological care.
The Clinic for the Elderly (Geriatric Dentistry Clinic) caters to senior citizens referred by the SUS, with guidance, treatments and work associated with common conditions of the elderly, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The focus is on the prevention and treatment of the consequences of the diseases related to the old age that can affect the teeth.
The “So-Riso” Maternal and Child Care Project provides treatment to pregnant women and children aged under 5 years, as well as advice to parents and guardians.It gets referrals from the SUS and caters to people who live in the neighborhoods surrounding UFJF (São Pedro, Don Bosco), with proof of residence.
The Special service of Oral Surgery performs medium to high-complexity surgeries, under local anesthesia, such as extraction of impacted teeth and small tumors removed.It also performs biopsies.It gets patients through referrals from the SUS or referrals from students or professors of the Dentistry School.
