Professor in the Graduate Programs in History and Religious Science at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora – UFJF). PhD in History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ). He was Director of the Center for Afro-Brazilian Studies (Núcleo de Estudos Afro-Brasileiros – NEAB-UFJF) between 2009 and 2014, Coordinator of the Lato Sensu Graduate Course in Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture: education for ethnic-racial relations, Coordinator of the Lato Sensu Graduate Course in Afro-Brazilian Religions and Religiosities, and Director of the Institute of Humanities at UFJF (2018-2022). He has experience in the area of history and religion, working mainly on the following topics: religion in black intellectual thought, religion and writing of the self, religion and African literature, religion, slavery and abolitionism, and religious experiences of enslaved people.
