Professor in the Department of History and in the Graduate Program in History (Programa de Pós-Graduação em História – PPGH) at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora – UFJF). Researcher at the Laboratory of Economic and Social History (Laboratório de História Econômica e Social – LAHES /UFJF). PhD in History from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais – UFMG). He was a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of History, College of Arts, University of Guelph, Canada. He worked as a historian for the Intangible Heritage Department and the Protection and Memory Office of the Minas Gerais State Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico de Minas Gerais – IEPHA-MG). At the Institute for Continuing Education of Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais – PUC Minas), he was a professor in the area of Heritage and Historical Archives in Minas Gerais. He is the leader of the “Center for Research in Economics, History and Geography of the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais” (“Núcleo de pesquisa em Economia, História e Geografia da Zona da Mata mineira”) and a researcher in the “Americanist Teaching and Research Group” (“Grupo de Ensino e Pesquisas Americanistas”) and the “Atlantic Slavery: family, wealth and culture” (“Escravismo Atlântico: família, riqueza e cultura”) group. Researcher with an emphasis in history, working mainly on the following topics: historical sociology, economics and population, historical demography, family history, slave societies, analysis of social networks, social mobility, hierarchies and inequalities, historical geography, and spatial history.
