Scholarship students will lose their scholarship if their qualification is outside the regulated timeframe, according to the PPGACL Scholarship Regulations.
Requests for extensions are voted on at the board meetings and should only occur in exceptional cases, as the 24-month deadline for defense is a CAPES regulation, and extending this deadline may affect the Program’s rating.
New Deadlines: Suspension: 03/18/2020 to 09/30/2021
Return: 10/01/2021
According to article 1 of Ordinance/SEI no. 1138, dated September 28, 2021, "The counting of deadlines for stricto sensu postgraduate studies (for course completion, defense, qualification exams, course leave, and maternity leave) was suspended from March 18, 2020, to September 30, 2021, for all students, including those who enrolled during this period, with the counting resuming on October 1, 2021."
Therefore, to calculate the final deadline with date flexibility, each cohort or student, depending on their enrollment date, should add to their regulated qualification and defense deadlines the time that was missing for these dates at the time of the suspension of deadlines, which occurred on March 18, 2020. For example, the 2019 cohort had 6 months remaining until the regulated qualification date, so 6 months should be added to October 1, 2021, the date when deadlines resumed. For the defense, there were 13 months remaining from the regulated deadline, so 13 months should be added to October 1, 2021.
We also highlight that the flexible deadline is the final date for qualification and defense. However, if the student wants to stay within the regulated deadline or qualify/defend before the flexible final deadline, it is up to them and their advisor. The final deadlines are presented below, but the choice of date must be made in consultation with the advisor, without exceeding the flexible final deadline.
Please note that deadline flexibility does not mean an extension of scholarships.
