Instructions for Dissertation and Thesis Qualification

Initial Procedures:
The student must define the Examination Committee together with their advisor and contact the professors to set the date of the qualification examination.

For the master’s qualification, the Examination Committee will be composed of the advisor and two additional members (one internal and one external to the Program, with the external member possibly being from outside UFJF).

For the doctoral qualification, the Committee will consist of the advisor, one member from the Postgraduate Program in Arts, Culture, and Languages (PPGACL), and one member external to UFJF.

The student must send the following completed documents to the Program’;s secretariat at ppg.acl@ufjf.br, at least 15 days prior to the qualification date (by the end of the 3rd semester for the master’s and the 6th semester for the doctorate):

  • Qualification Examination Request Form;
  • Qualification Committee Participation Declaration (the secretariat will obtain the program coordination’s signature and return it to the student);
  • The email must specify whether the qualification will take place in person or online, and indicate which virtual platform (Google Meet or SIGA) will be used.

 

Before the Qualification Examination:

  • The student must deliver the Qualification Report to all committee members;
  • It is the student’s responsibility to distribute the report to the committee members.
  • The student must confirm with each member whether they prefer to receive the material in printed form or as a PDF (via email);
  • Delivering the work to the committee members is the exclusive responsibility of the student.

The student or the advisor must also fill out the Qualification Examination Record The record must be kept by the advisor for signatures after the examination is conducted.

 

After the Qualification Examination:

  • The student must hand a Participation Declaration to each member of the Examination Committee at the end of the qualification.
  • After the examination, the signed record must be sent by email to the PPG secretariat.
  • If the examination is held remotely, the advisor may sign on behalf of all committee members.

 

For qualifications held via Google Meet:

The advisor must schedule the videoconference through Google Meet and send the access link to all committee members, including the student.
