ARTES IMPRINT – Postgraduate Program in Arts, Culture, and Languages
The ARTES Imprint, affiliated with the Postgraduate Program in Arts, Culture, and Languages (PPGACL) at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), aims primarily to expand and enhance research, teaching, and outreach in the field of Arts. To achieve this, it promotes the dissemination and online publication of academic research and educational materials.
The proposal for the editorial imprint was submitted to UFJF Press in September 2021 and approved for activities to begin in 2022. UFJF Press, linked to the University Rector's Office through the Office of Graduate Studies and Research (Propp), follows the guidelines of the Institutional Development Plan (PDI) and has the mission to publish works in both digital and print formats. Its publications, intended for students, faculty, researchers, and the general public, are distinguished by their high scientific and educational quality, and also feature artistic and cultural content. This effort aims to foster the development of teaching and research and to contribute to UFJF’s national and international recognition.
In 2021, UFJF Press launched an internal call for proposals for editorial imprints from the university’s postgraduate programs, aligned with the Press’s mission and UFJF’s PDI. It was in this context that the ARTES Imprint was created.
Editorial Team and Editorial Board
Initially, the ARTES Imprint editorial team was composed of one professor from each of the program’s research lines:
Maria Claudia Bonadio
Theresa Medeiros
Ricardo De Cristofaro
Renata Zago
The Editorial Board was formed by professors from Brazilian and international universities whose research dialogues with PPGACL’s research areas.
Selection Process and Publications
The ARTES Imprint periodically issues calls for submissions to select manuscripts for publication, encompassing individual works as well as academic, scientific, technical, or artistic collections. Publications span the fields of Visual Arts, Cinema and Audiovisual, Fashion, and Music and Sound Arts.
Submissions are open to faculty and researchers from UFJF and other national and international higher education and research institutions. Additionally, works derived from master's theses and doctoral dissertations defended at PPGACL/UFJF are accepted, provided they are adapted into a book format.
In 2022, two works were selected through a public call and published in 2023:
Sixteen Piano Studies by Ian Guest: Interpretive and Pedagogical Reflections, organized by Fernando Vago Santana (PPGACL) and Maristela Rocha de Almeida Magalhães;
Dialogues Between Art and Sociology: Contemporary Readings, organized by Maria Lucia Bueno Ramos (PPGACL) and Sabrina Marques Parracho Sant’Anna (UFRJ).
The works are available in digital format on the UFJF Press website.
Currently, a third publication is in production, with an expected release in 2025. In addition to the publications linked to the ARTES Imprint, three works were produced and launched by UFJF Press in 2021, before the imprint’s creation. Organized by PPGACL faculty members, these publications are available in UFJF’s Institutional
Repository:
Histories of Street Cinemas in Minas Gerais, organized by Professor Alessandra
Brum and PPGACL graduate Ryan Brandão;
Histories of Exhibitions: Perspectives and Trajectories, organized by Professor
Renata Zago;
Uncertain Nights in Paris, authored by Professor Rosane Preciosa.
