Embaixada dos EUA oferece curso online de inglês em cinco áreas de interesse

A RELO Brasil, Escritório Regional de Língua Inglesa, da Embaixada dos Estados Unidos no Brasil oferecerá cinco MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) de conteúdos facilitados disponíveis por área de interesse: Career Development; Journalism; Media Literacy; Business and Entrepreneurship;  Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). O curso é gratuito e acontecerá de 16 de novembro de 2021 a 8 de janeiro de 2022.

Projetado para falantes não nativos de inglês no nível B1, o curso é voltado para interessados ​​em desenvolver as habilidades necessárias. Cada MOOC incluirá o trabalho do curso assíncrono + reuniões síncronas semanais de uma hora, em inglês. O número de vagas é limitado.

Para manisfestar interesse, o estudante da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF) deverá encaminhar e-mail à Diretoria de Relações Internacionais (DRI) até o dia 15 de outubro no endereço eletrônico internationaloffice@ufjf.edu.br e anexar comprovante de proficiência em inglês, se tiver. No assunto/título do e-mail o candidato precisa colocar a área do seu interesse. No corpo do e-mail: Nome, curso, matrícula, área escolhida. Nesta primeira fase, a DRI irá prospectar o interesse dos estudantes para, em seguida, montar grupos que serão submetidos a um processo seletivo por parte da Relo Brasil.

Career Development

This course is designed for non-native English speakers at B1 level who are interested in advancing their careers in the global marketplace. In this course, you will learn about the job search, application, and interview process in the United States, while comparing and contrasting the same process in your home country. This course will also give you the opportunity to explore your global career path while building your vocabulary and improving your language skills to achieve your professional goals.

Module 1: Entering the Job Market
Module 2: Writing a Resume
Module 3: Writing a Cover Letter
Module 4: Developing Your Professional Network
Module 5: Interviewing for a Job
Each module will require approximately 5-6 hours of work.

Journalism

This course is designed for non-native English speakers at B1 level interested in developing the skills needed for a career in modern journalism. In this course, you will explore print and digital media while expanding your vocabulary and increasing your ability to research and develop local and global news stories.
Module 1: Introduction to the history and principles of journalism.

Module 2: Research, pitch, and interview.
Module 3: Language for writing newspaper and magazine articles.
Module 4: Basics of broadcasting the news.
Module 5: The growth, impact, and challenges of the digital media age.
Each module will require approximately 5-6 hours of work.

Media Literacy

This course is designed for non-native English speakers at the B1 level who are interested in improving their
language skills and knowledge of the media at the same time. In this course, participants will investigate how media has changed over time. This course provides the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the role media plays in our lives while building the vocabulary and language skills needed to analyze what we read and watch.

Module 1: Introduction to Media Literacy
Module 2: The Evolution of Media
Module 3: Advertising
Module 4: Bias in the Media
Module 5: Diversity and the Media
Each module will require approximately 5-6 hours of work.

Business and Entrepreneurship

This course is designed for non-native English speakers at B1 level who are interested in improving their language skills and knowledge of business and entrepreneurship at the same time. From identifying an opportunity to planning a persuasive pitch, this course will guide you step-by-step through the basic elements of starting up a new business. Through selected readings and video lectures, you will learn how to use market research to identify risks and opportunities.

Module 1: Becoming an Entrepreneur
Module 2: Identifying an Opportunity
Module 3: Creating a Business Plan, Part 1: Product description and Marketing Section
Module 4: Creating a Business Plan, Part 2: Financials and the Executive Summary
Module 5: Attracting Investors and Obtaining Financial Support
Each module will require approximately 5-6 hours of work.

Science, Technology, & Mathematics (STEM)

This course is designed for non-native English speakers at the B1 level who are interested in improving their English skills in the sciences. In this course, you will explore some of the most innovative areas of scientific study while expanding your vocabulary and the language skills needed to share scientific information within your community.

Module 1: Preview texts & practice some of the language used to make comparisons when talking about global
warming and climate change
Module 2: Examine the chemistry of climate change and the language of cause and effect
Module 3: Review impacts of Climate Change and the language used to describe these effects.
Module 4: Explore reading strategies that can help you explore the science behind some new energy systems
Module 5: Investigate practical advances in nanotechnology that help slow down climate change, while developing your own research skills in English.
Each module will require approximately 5-6 hours of work.
