May 2018 Ridge Summer School

Description

The Summer School will take place in the framework of the 2018 RIDGE May Forum, Montevideo. It will consist of 5 lectures by top scholars and the participation in the 2018 RIDGE May Forum.

The RIDGE Summer School aims to give young Latin American economists the opportunity to attend lectures by top scholars and to be part of the debate about the frontier of knowledge in economics.
Lecturers give an overview of the main open issues on topics related to the Forum.

The 2018 RIDGE May Forum consists of the following Workshops:
    • Political Economy, May 21-22 (Montevideo, Uruguay)
    • LACEA Impact Evaluation Network, May 22-23 (Montevideo, Uruguay)
    • Poverty and Inequality, May 23-24 (Montevideo, Uruguay)
    • Public Economics, May 23-24 (Montevideo, Uruguay)

The RIDGE Forum aims to favor the spread of high quality research in economics and promotes the development of new views on economic thinking from the perspective of developing countries. It brings together top researchers working on the frontier of knowledge with researchers working in Latin America and Latin American policy makers.
 

Participants

The Summer School targets outstanding Latin American graduate economists. Priority will be given to Latin American students enrolled in Latin American Graduate programs in economics.
Interested students should apply by submitting a short CV (2 pages maximum), transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a supervisor through 

A Committee, following standard criteria, will make the selection according to: GPA, publications and awards, a letter of recommendation and work experience.

The deadline for applying is March 23, 2018
The notification of the organizers decision is sent April 6, 2018 
Only selected students will participate.

 

Travel and Accommodation

Organizers will provide accommodation for 5 nights to the invited foreign participants. These participants will be responsible for arranging their own travel.

Distinguished professors Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia), Andrew Bernard (Universidad Stanford), Tim Besley (LSE), Jonathan Eaton (Penn State), Xavier Freixas (UPF), Hugo Hopenhayn (UCLA), Dalia Marin (University of Munich), Jean Charles Rochet (Zurich), Dani Rodrik (Harvard), Stephanie Schmitt-Grohe (Columbia University) and Jeffrey Williamson (Harvard), were among the lecturers in the previous Summer Schools.
