More than 25 years of research experience in the field of Inorganic Chemistry, with particular emphasis on Metals in Medicine, Catalysis and Solution Chemistry. The greatest scientific and academic achievements are gaining a full professorship at the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC) and currently at Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), author of 74 scientific articles, 3 patents (1 granted two submitted) and 8 book chapters; 44 invitations to deliver lectures at various worldwide chemistry conferences / meetings and prestigious academic institutions; attendance at 77 national and international scientific meetings. Reviewer of the most important international journals in the inorganic and biological chemistry fields (e.g. J. Inorg. Biochem., J. Med. Chem., Inorg. Chem., Bioorg. Med. Chem., Eur. J. Med. Chem., New J. Chem. Dalton Transition, etc) and international projects.
At IVIC, was mentor of sixteen undergraduate students, seven masters and four doctoral students, and one postdoctoral researcher. Currently, as a Full professor at UFJF supervised three master students and two undergraduate students. I am supervising four doctoral students, one master and one undergraduate. Examiner of several undergraduate, masters and doctoral theses. International experience teaching courses in the areas of expertise. Beside the scientific achievements, successful management of projects and important administrative functions as a Deputy Head of the Chemistry Centre and Head of the Bioinorganic Chemistry Laboratory at IVIC. Coordinator of graduate programs and committees for research projects. Responsible for the organization of several national and international symposia and conferences. At UFJF from 2019-2021, I was the Deputy Head of the Chemistry department.
International research experience at IVIC, Purdue University, University of North Carolina, University of Western Australia, Murdoch University and National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO). Responsible for the development of numerous research projects related to Metals in Medicine. Main research areas: synthesis, characterization and mechanistic studies of metal complexes with biological activity against different diseases such as Malaria, Leishmaniasis, Cancer, Inflammation and Chagas’ Diseases. Substantial experience working in international and multidisciplinary teams, with chemists, biologists, biochemists, pharmacists and industry representatives.
