The athletics events in the Games Rio 2016 start on August 12th and the competitors are working hard at UFJF. Estonia and Canada delegations, however, are using different strategies to prepare their athletes. While the Canadians are intensifying the pace of training, the Estonians prefer to focus on relaxation.
“Nothing changed, there is no difference, the target is the same. The intention is to train harder from now on. Maybe tomorrow we’ll train even harder”, said Oluwasegun Makinde, sprinter from Canada, who has delighted the public with his kindness.
The coach of Estonia delegation, Taivo Mägi, thinks differently: “We are doing a lighter train, practicing some techniques. We won’t train hard in these last days”. The coach still added that the emotional confidence of the athletes is very good and that the sunny weather has helped and also the good conditions, including the security provided by the University.
The Chinese have intensified their trainings in some events, such as hammer and javelin throw, the pole vault and racewalking.
Until this Tuesday, 9th, a group of 57 Canadians will have already boarded to Rio de Janeiro. Other ten leave in August 13th. Estonia goes to the Olympic Games in August 10th and 13th.
Members of the Chinese delegation will head to Rio gradually during this week. Some athletes will still stay in Juiz de Fora until August 16th. Poland and Qatar will leave in August 10th and Slovakia might keep some athletes in UFJF until August 17th.
