Power, place and politics: tourism in contemporary geopolitics

Focus: Tourism

This course aims to shed light on the theme of power, state and politics in tourism and vice versa, i.e. to try to show how tourism also plays a key role in the issues of power, politics and contemporary nation states. In particular, it seeks, after the presentation of the key issues of current geopolitics and tourism, to enter into 3 central themes of the studies of the area; 1. to show how tourism, in turn, occupies a key role in issues of geopolitics of states (in intra and international terms), 2. to offer a mapping of the theories of geopolitics in tourism, 3. to propose an agenda of studies on the theme of tourism studies, as well as its contribution to the studies of geopolitics in general, and vice versa.
